St Cedd was born in Northumbria circa 620 and was raised on the island of Lindisfarne. Cedd was appointed bishop of the East Saxons and was a Bishop of London which was part of the East Saxon kingdom in those days. Cedd founded many churches and monasteries in Essex and died on 26 October in the year 664.

History

St Cedd Lodge Nº 6519 is a Freemason's lodge that was formed in October 1947 by members of Saint Chad Lodge Nº 3115 who incidentally formed another lodge at the same time. When the Lodge had its 50th anniversary (1997) the Master during that year was a Brother who was initiated in the first year of the Lodges' being. We are affiliated to St Chad Chapter Nº 3115 although some members belong to other Chapters.

The Lodge meets on the 4th Saturday in November (Installation), 4th Saturday in January (Burn's Night), 3rd Thursday in May and the 4th Thursday in September. The Lodge of Instruction meets on the second Thursday of the month at Hartswood Golf Club in Brentwood, Essex by invitation of the Secretary and Preceptor

SAINT CEDD ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER HISTORY

The Lodge is aligned with the St Chad Chapter Nº 3115 which had its centenary in 2010. The reason is historic, as Saint Cedd Lodge was formed from members of St Chad Lodge in 1947 and the therefore a Chapter already existed that Saint Cedd Lodge members could attend. Most of the members that formed the new Saint Cedd Lodge were already members of the Royal Arch, and were also members of St Chad Chapter.

The current membership of St Chad Chapter is drawn from 6 different lodges, and is a happy band.

SAINT CEDD ROYAL ARCH WHEN AND WHERE?
The Chapter meets 3 times per year in April, June and October (Installation), and the Chapter of Instruction is held at East Ham, in East London on the 6 Sundays preceding a meeting.

Fees include dining and wine, for more information contact the Secretary of Saint Cedd Lodge.
