Southend Freemasons support of the annual RNLI Junior Fishing Competition

The day wasn't just about casting lines and hoping for a catch, it was very much an educational journey.

At Ramsgate on 25th August 2023, the spirit of camaraderie and community service was in full swing as the sea-fishing members of Stonewell Lodge No. 9137 rallied behind the RNLI Junior Fishing Competition. Demonstrating their unwavering commitment to community outreach and maritime safety, the boat with members of Stonewell Lodge joined 15 other boats from as far as Dover and Rye to make the RNLI event an unforgettable sea fishing experience in the Thames Estuary for 80 children.

Every child was given a rod and reel, a tea shirt and a goody bag to make it a fun and memorable event during the school holidays but the day wasn't just about casting lines and hoping for a catch, it was very much an educational journey. The children were imparted with vital knowledge about safety at sea, ensuring they understood the importance of maritime precautions. Additionally, they were taught the art of fishing, from handling fish caught by rod and line to mastering the technique of casting off boats.

Steve Ashby, a long-standing member was proud of what Stonewell Lodge had achieved. Steve said, "The children had a fantastic day out and it was heartening to see their enthusiasm not just in catching fish but also in learning about sea safety." The event wasn't just a success in terms of participation; it has also achieved its fundraising goal, raising in excess of £4,000 to support the running costs of the RNLI Ramsgate Lifeboat.

For those intrigued by the blend of Freemasonry and sea fishing, Stonewell Lodge offers a unique opportunity as it organises sea fishing trips which foster a sense of camaraderie among like-minded Freemasons and fishermen. Their next scheduled sea fishing trip is on Saturday, 2nd September 2023 and to take part in this enriching experience, contact Steve Ashby at This email address is being protected from spambots.
