Southend and Chingford lodges combine for a special Third Degree

Read about a great example of Lodges joining together to help each other and being received and enjoyed by all

At the April 22nd 2023, meeting of Thames Mouth Lodge No. 6994, which meets at Saxon Hall in Southend-on Sea, at the request of the Chingford based Tilbury Lodge No. 2006, Kyle Swallow was Raised to the degree of a Master Mason.

Edd Bennett, the Worshipful Master of Thames Mouth, presided and the event was overseen by Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Colin Felton on an Official Visit. The connection was made by three brethren who are members of both Lodges and assisted in the ceremony. Richard Burrell, the current Tilbury Lodge Secretary, carried out the Raising, Steve Zetter, the Chaplain of both lodges, delivered the Traditional History and explanation of the Third-Degree Tracing Board and Adam Hollingworth, the Thames Mouth, Director of Ceremonies (DC) and Tilbury Assistant DC, presented the working tools.

An excellent rendition of the Third-Degree Walking Charge was given to Kyle Swallow by Tony Minns of Thames Mouth.  Colin Felton said at the festive board, “It is great to see Lodges assisting each other as with today’s meeting which I thoroughly enjoyed.  But, the future of lodges, such as Thames Mouth and Tilbury, lays in their hands to attract more members as both Lodges are an important part of the community of Lodges in Essex.”

This combined meeting was well received and enjoyed by all. It will be a memory that will last forever in the mind of the new young Master Mason, Kyle Swallow. As a result, Thames Mouth have offered to help Tilbury in the future, if needed.  With two Initiations, two Passings and three more Raisings all still on the Tilbury Lodge agenda, it is a very healthy situation.
