A successful Annual Masonic Golfing Event raising support for Stisted Hall

40 golfers supported this annual event which proved again to be a great triumph

This ‘must’ in the Annual Masonic Golfing Calendar took place on Wednesday 15th June under cloudless skies and with perfect conditions. 40 golfers took part with everyone having the opportunity of winning the prestigious Sir Neil Thorne Trophy. Apart from a team who took the wrong turning and, instead of the third hole, prepared to play the 9th in error, it was another very successful day!

This event is organised by ‘The Trustees of The Association of Friends’ who raise funds to help support the day-to-day needs of residents living in Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court, Stisted Hall, a Masonic home near Braintree.

Local Braintree Mason, Derek Burrell had taken on the mantle of organising the event from Nigel Oldacre MBE, and although there was a lot to learn especially on the days running up to the occasion, he can reflect on a job very well done.

Thanks, must be given to Peter Hollingsworth, Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master who organised the raffle and being a great supporter of this event, he also supplied and procured many quality prizes. He also persuaded Mark Smith, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, to deliver a short story on the ‘Dam Busters Raid.’ So, thank you also Mark as further donations were made for this privilege which helped swell the coffers further.

With Nick Franklin, Deputy Provincial Grand Master as our guest we were well represented by the province and thanks also go, to Trustees, Nigel Oldacre, Graham Larke, and Andrew McLeod and of course with the assistance of Eric Broadbent and Derek Burrell. Finally, our thanks to Braintree Golf Club for the use of their facilities and grounds which were in lovely condition, as always.

The event raised £900-plus which will go directly to benefit the Residents of Stisted Hall.

Thank you all for supporting us and see you next year on Wednesday 5th July 2024. Derek will keep you in the loop.
