Essex mourns the sad loss of Worshipful Brother Bill Gunary

Heartfelt wishes go to the family of a Grand Officer who contributed so much to Freemasonry in Essex

The Provincial Grand Lodge of Essex is sad to report that Worshipful Brother Bill Gunary, a Past Provincial Assistant Grand Master, passed to Grand Lodge above on Christmas Day in the care home where he lived with his wife, Shirley.

Known by many throughout Essex Freemasonry, William (Bill) Malcolm Asheton Gunary received his first Provincial Craft Appointment in 1981 with an acting rank as ProvAGDC, followed by promotions to PPAGDC in 1982 and PPJGW in 1987. He became a Grand Officer with the rank of PAGDC in 1990 and was appointed an AsstProvGM in 2001 with promotion to PSGD in 2002. In Royal Arch Masonry, Bill was appointed as Prov1stAGSoj in 1986, and appointed as a Grand Officer with the rank of PGStB in 1989, he was promoted to PAGSoj in 1997 and appointed to the Provincial Executive as an Assistant Principal to the Grand Principals (APGP) in the same year.

Worshipful Brother Bill’s Funeral will be at St Mary’s Church, 2 Church Hill, Olveston, Gloucestershire BS35 4BX at 13.00 on Friday 19th January 2024. There will be refreshments afterwards at The Ship Inn, Thornbury Road, Alveston BS35 3LL, which is a Premier Inn with accommodation available for those travelling a long distance.

Worshipful Brother Bill’s Memorial/Celebration of Life Service will be at St Laurence Church, Corbets Tey Road, Upminster, Essex RM14 2BB at 13.00 on Friday 26th January 2024. There will be   refreshments afterwards in one of the church halls.

Food and drinks will be available after both services.
