Such has been the success of the fundraising activities of the Cross Keys Masonic Centre in Chadwell St Mary that the ‘Cross Keys Community Fund’ is now a valuable asset for many Community Groups throughout Thurrock. On the back of successful Christmas events the dedicated team have been busy again this Easter.
An Easter Egg Hunt and Picnic was held at the Little Thurrock Community Gardens for the Children of Changing Pathways Women’s Refuge. Changing Pathways provides safe accommodation to adult women and their children who are experiencing domestic abuse and are unable to stay in their own homes or access alternative safe accommodation.
In what was typical British weather over 50 Children, Mums and support staff excitedly searched for over 250 hidden Eggs crammed with sweet Treats before a further 100 Easter Eggs were handed out prior to the picnic itself. Sandwiches, cakes, sausage rolls and drinks were heartedly consumed and enjoyed by all.
The Cross Keys Masons further laid on Arts and Crafts packs for the Children to complete before the inclement weather came in.
Zoe Mckee (Operations Manager – Changing Pathways) commented with “A very big thank you to Freemasons Dave, Clive, Chris and partners for arranging an Easter Egg hunt for the children. Thurrock refuge families visited a lovely little garden where the children coloured in bags ready for the eggs to be collected. A lunch spread was laid on and enjoyed by all. The children had an amazing time running around searching for lots of Easter Eggs. Thank you to all involved.”
Another Egg-cellent Easter Egg Hunt was laid on for Footsteps. Footsteps is a Special Needs Youth group in Corringham, Essex. Over 100 Chocolate Eggs and more Arts and Crafts packs and Easter Eggs bags were provided for the event with everyone joining in and having great fun.
Laura Hall who runs the local Youth Group passionately commented on the donation “Oh my god. That’s incredible, thank you so much!”
It what has been a very busy period, The Cross Keys Community Fund donated £100 to the ‘Thurrock Play Network’ in Chadwell St Mary. Thurrock Play Network (TPN) is a small non-profit charity that provides advice, support and resources for play and recreation in the community. TPN give advice and support to individuals, voluntary groups and organisations.
Further substantial donations were made to a Coronation Competition as well as contributions of various Raffle prizes throughout the local community. With Quiz nights, Coronations events, Tea parties and Charity balls already lined up it seems the Charitable Cross Keys team will be busy boys.
